Christian Kaltenhofer is a seasoned information security professional with extensive experience in the banking and aviation industries. He is the CISO at Lufthansa Cargo, one of the world’s leading companies in air freight, which currently employs about 4,400 people worldwide. As CISO, Christian is responsible for overseeing the company’s network security, design, and audits.

With a career spanning over two decades, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to creating secure enterprises and finding the perfect balance between people, processes, and technologies. Christian’s expertise lies in driving change and transforming information security from a burden to a value-creating function. Christian completed his Master’s thesis in public key infrastructure in 2001, kicking off his career in information security. Over the years, he has held various positions at reputable organizations, honing his skills and knowledge in project management and IT security provider management. Prior to joining Lufthansa Cargo as CISO, Christian worked at DEKA Bank as the Head of Application Operations. During his tenure, he successfully managed front, middle, and back-office banking applications, ensuring the smooth functioning of critical IT systems. Before that, he spent 10 years working at Lufthansa Systems, one of the world’s leading providers of IT services in the airline industry. Starting as an IT Architect, he later transitioned into the role of IT Architecture Manager, developing a deep understanding of the aviation industry and gaining valuable insights into IT infrastructure management.

Throughout his career, Christian has demonstrated a strong focus on communication and security awareness at all levels of an organization. He firmly believes in bridging the gap between technical aspects and business objectives, ensuring that information security is understood and embraced from the shop floor to the boardroom. By driving change and promoting awareness, Christian strives to elevate information security from a mere millstone to a source of value creation within an organization.
