David Malicoat
CISO
Direct Marketing Solutions
David Malicoat is a 25-year veteran of the cybersecurity and information technology industry. He is currently the Chief Information Security Officer at Direct Marketing Solutions where he and his team secure over 1.5 billion pieces of personally identifiable information each year. David is also a cybersecurity professor at Collin College, just outside of Dallas, Texas where he teaches subjects such as Penetration Testing, Cyber Defense, and Cloud Security. He is also a producer of the Digital Fight Club Cyber event, where the top minds in the industry go head-to-head debating today’s hot cybersecurity topics.
Prior to his current endeavors, David owned and ran his own Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) business, which he later successfully exited. During that time, he provided critical cybersecurity consulting to a state agency with their efforts to secure Next Generation 9-1-1 technologies. Prior to owning his own business, David provided cybersecurity and IT consulting to many Fortune 500 customers as a Principal Consultant at WGroup, where he advised in the health care, manufacturing, financial services, and commercial real estate verticals. Before his time as a consultant, David led large enterprise engagements for Perot Systems and subsequently Dell Services. He started his technical career as a Unix Systems Administrator, spending time on the keyboard supporting critical customers. Prior to starting his technical career, David was a Rifleman and Imagery Interpretation Specialist in the United States Marine Corps. David holds his Master of Science in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity from Capella University and his Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Texas at Dallas. He also holds his Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) from ISC2.
