Modern CISO Network: Board Book

John McClure is the CISO and Vice President of Enterprise Infrastructure & Cloud at Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., where he provides strategic leadership for the company’s enterprise information security and infrastructure and cloud programs, reporting to the executive leadership team and board. Sinclair, named a Fortune 500 company in 2021, is a diversified media company and leading provider of local sports and news. Before joining Sinclair, John served as the Global CISO for Laureate Education, Inc. a publicly traded organization that provides affordable higher education options through a network of 71 universities spread across 26 countries, with a student population exceeding one million.

Prior to venturing into the commercial sector, John spent more than 20 years supporting the federal government, primarily focusing on secure infrastructure and information security missions for the intelligence community. His most recent role supporting the US government was with the Office of Government-wide Policy, where he helped them create meaningful cybersecurity policies. Known for his innovative leadership, John also founded companies including KimberSystems and AnaVation, a company that provides big data, analytics, and cybersecurity solutions to the U.S. government. John is a military veteran (Army Aviation) and holds various information security and leadership certifications, including the recently created Boardroom Certified Qualified Technology Expert (QTE) designed by the Digital Directors Network to qualify and certify technology experts to support boardroom objectives.

A recognized thought leader and frequent speaker at professional events, John shares his security expertise to help organizations build cybersecurity programs and navigate new cybersecurity rules and guidelines. John has traveled extensively and lived on multiple continents during his professional career and has leveraged his strong communication skills in both English and Spanish. He enjoys reading, traveling, exploring new cultures, new foods, and lives with his wife Tammy and their two cats in Middle River, Maryland.
