John Overbaugh
CISO
Alpine Software Group
John Overbaugh is an accomplished information security and technology leader, currently leading information security across Alpine Software Group, and driving measurable change. With over 30 years of experience, John is known for his ability to find a way to securely meet business needs. He has a strong background in healthcare information security, focused on startup and rapid growth companies. John assists companies in establishing overarching security strategies as well as implementing the day-to-day tactical steps required to move a company forward toward compliance and security. More than a decade of experience as a software engineer at Microsoft early in his career means he understands how applications are built, and is uniquely able to discuss product strategy, engineering, and technology, and security all in the same conversation.
John is driven to assist companies in navigating the growth stage, balancing feature delivery with compliance and security. His tactical experience leading companies through Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST) and other assessments as well as through security incidents allow him to develop priorities and a logical sequence for growth. This results in the highest return on investment for limited resources.
Throughout his career, John’s employers have trusted him to solve challenges and drive results. From putting international releases of Mac Office 98 back on track to dealing with a nationwide credit bureau data breach, John has developed a model for addressing and solving problems, along with the ability to be the calmest person in the room during a crisis.
To balance the demands of being an information security leader, John spends his free time in volunteer service, endurance cycling, motorsport photography, and his family. Of all his job titles, he is proudest of being “Pops” to four grandchildren. John honors his Hispanic heritage by advising a Mexico-based information security services firm.
