Summer Craze Fowler

Summer Craze Fowler is a cybersecurity executive with more than 20 years of experience developing technical strategies and leading teams to achieve aggressive goals while also in hyper-growth mode. She is currently the Senior VP of Cybersecurity and IT at Motional, a self-driving car company, where she leads teams responsible for product cybersecurity, enterprise IT, and enterprise cybersecurity.
Summer has successfully built teams from the ground up and assumed leadership of existing teams and led them to achieve measurable goals. She is especially adept at aligning cybersecurity programs with the goals of the organization and communicating effectively with both executives and technical teams. Prior to her current role, Summer was a CISO and Chief Corporate Responsibility Manager at Argo AI (also a self-driving car company) and a Director of Cyber Risk at the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program at the Software Engineering Institute. She started her career as a software engineer developing and supporting systems for Special Operations Forces and Department of Defense programs. She earned degrees in computer science (BS) and information science (MS) at the University of Pittsburgh.
Summer is an experienced board governance professional through her work with both corporate and nonprofit boards. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Brentwood Bank and as cybersecurity advisor for various organizations including a cyber risk automation product and an international FinTech company. Summer is an adjunct faculty member at Carnegie Mellon University where she teaches a graduate course on cybersecurity policy and executive education courses on metrics. Summer was named as one of the 2021 Top 25 Women in Cyber Security by The Software Report and 2021 CIO of the Year in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was selected by civic leaders in Pittsburgh to represent the city at the Harvard Business School Young American Leaders program in 2022.
